AMMAN, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Jordan evacuated 21 nationals from Venezuela following earthquake response operations coordinated with regional partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced Sunday.

The evacuees arrived in Amman aboard a Qatari Air Force C-17 cargo aircraft, which delivered humanitarian, medical and food assistance from Jordan to the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the operation was coordinated jointly by the ministry and Jordanian Armed Forces in cooperation with the relevant authorities in Venezuela and Qatar.

Jordan, in cooperation with Qatar, dispatched two humanitarian aid aircraft on Thursday and Friday carrying around 52 tonnes of specialized medical supplies for treating injuries and wounds, as well as medical consumables, essential food items and relief packages to help address the urgent needs of families affected by the disaster.

As part of its international humanitarian response, Jordan also deployed a 100-member search-and-rescue team to earthquake-stricken Venezuela.

Two earthquakes measuring magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 struck north of Caracas last week. Authorities said Saturday that the death toll had risen to 2,954, with 16,592 others injured.
