SANTIAGO, July 12 (Xinhua) -- At least six people were killed and seven others injured Sunday morning after a car overturned into an open-air market in the coastal city of Vina del Mar in central Chile, local authorities said.

The incident occurred in the popular Gomez Carreno area. Manuel Millones, presidential delegate for the Valparaiso region, told reporters that the driver had been arrested while an investigation was under way.

Authorities are seeking to determine "whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or whether it was due to negligence or a driving error," he added.
