Several areas in southern Iran's Hormozgan Province came under attack on Sunday evening, with one person killed and two others wounded on Farur Island, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

US forces launched a new round of strikes against Iran on Sunday evening, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a social media post, adding that the attacks were aimed at further degrading Iran's ability to target civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

US and Iranian forces have exchanged heavy missile and drone assaults, while Tehran said it had again closed the Strait of Hormuz.

However, US President Donald Trump insisted on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz was "open."

Earlier on Sunday, CENTCOM said its forces had carried out a third round of strikes this week against Iran, "holding Iranian forces accountable for attacking another commercial ship in the Strait of Hormuz."

Iran retaliated later by targeting US bases and facilities across the Gulf, with Iranian media saying the strikes targeted US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar.

Egypt, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates condemned the Iranian attacks on Sunday.

Egypt described them as a "flagrant violation" of the sovereignty of the countries affected, while Iraq warned of risks to regional security and called for dialogue. The UAE also denounced the missile and drone attacks and reaffirmed its support for the countries targeted.
