JAKARTA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has exempted four countries -- China, the United States, Australia, and Canada -- from new rules requiring natural resource exporters to retain foreign exchange earnings in domestic accounts, a senior official said Thursday.

The country's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the decision was made during a high-level government coordination meeting on Thursday.

The new policy, which took effect on June 1 under Government Regulation No. 21 of 2026, requires exporters to repatriate and retain foreign exchange earnings in special domestic accounts to bolster the country's foreign exchange reserves and support rupiah stability.
