DHAKA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin Chuppu on Friday tendered his resignation in a letter submitted to Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, local media reported.

"I am suffering from various health complications," Chuppu told local media when asked about the reason for his resignation.

Under the Bangladeshi Constitution, the speaker shall discharge the functions of the president until a new president is elected.
