PORT LOUIS, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen members of one family were hospitalized on Friday after being exposed to tear gas in a residential area of Mahebourg, a city in southeastern Mauritius, police said on Saturday.

Police told Xinhua that they received a report of an alleged tear gas attack at around 7:30 p.m. local time (1530 GMT). The victims were treated at a hospital and discharged later that evening.

Police officers recovered a tear gas canister at the scene, saying that the suspect remained at large.
