CANBERRA, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- A woman was killed and three others injured in a collision between two vehicles in South Australia (SA) on Tuesday night, the SA police force said in a statement on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the collision at an intersection south of Adelaide around 10 p.m. local time on Tuesday.

A 21-year-old woman who was a passenger in one of the vehicles died at the scene. Another 21-year-old woman, the driver of the same vehicle, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while a second passenger, a woman aged 20, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The 27-year-old male driver of the second vehicle also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police from the major crash unit have commenced an investigation into the incident.

It takes the number of road deaths in SA so far in 2026 to 73 compared to 87 for the entirety of 2025 and 89 in 2024.
