SYDNEY, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- A man has been hospitalized after he was stabbed in his inner-Sydney home during a break-in in the early hours of Friday morning.

Police said that emergency services were called to a home in the inner-western Sydney suburb of Marrickville around 1:20 a.m. local time on Friday and arrived to find that a 61-year-old man had been stabbed several times in the torso by an unknown person.
He was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics and taken to hospital in a stable condition.
A police statement said initial investigations indicate that the offender had broken into the man's home before stabbing him and running from the scene.
The dog squad was called to assist a search of the nearby area, but the offender was not located.
Police said that detectives are hoping to speak to a man who was seen in the area at the time of the stabbing and asked for members of the public with information to come forward.
