U.S. President Donald Trump announced on social media Sunday that Will Scharf, currently serving as White House staff secretary, will become assistant to the president and White House counsel effective Sept. 1.

"Will has done an amazing job in his current role as White House Staff Secretary, and has also served as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission," Trump said in a post on his "Truth Social" platform.

According to U.S. media reports, Scharf helped facilitate the commission's approval of a 400-million-dollar White House ballroom project. A federal appeals court in Washington, D.C. recently ruled the project unlawful, and the case could soon reach the Supreme Court.

Trump said that Scharf previously served as a federal prosecutor, worked as an attorney in private practice, and clerked for two federal appeals court judges.

The president also said Scharf previously represented him in numerous cases, including at the Supreme Court, during the Biden administration's "corrupt and illegal campaign of Weaponization."

Scharf will replace David Warrington, who is transitioning to the private sector, according to the post.
