KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew 7.7 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, accelerating from a 4 percent growth in the previous quarter, driven by stronger output across the mining, manufacturing, and electricity sectors, official data showed Tuesday.

The second-quarter expansion was led by the mining sector, which grew 9.4 percent, followed by manufacturing at 7.4 percent and electricity at 7.3 percent, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the IPI increased 1.9 percent.

For the first half of 2026, the IPI rose 5.9 percent year-on-year, accelerating from 2 percent in the corresponding period last year.
