Violence is continuing to claim civilian lives and force thousands from their homes across Sudan, UN humanitarian officials warned on Wednesday.

In Blue Nile state, more than 20 civilians were killed and many others injured on Tuesday during clashes in Geisan town, according to local sources cited by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

The fighting displaced around 2,500 people, or about 500 families, with some fleeing to other parts of Geisan and across the border into Ethiopia, OCHA said, citing the International Organization for Migration.

Meanwhile, multiple waves of drone strikes were reported in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, as continued violence in northern parts of the state drove more people into the city.

According to OCHA, an estimated 15,000 families have arrived in El Obeid over the past three weeks, putting further strain on overcrowded displacement sites and basic services.

The UN has urged all parties to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure and allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need safely and without obstruction.

OCHA also called for increased donor support, noting that Sudan's $2.9 billion humanitarian appeal is only about 41 percent funded, with $1.2 billion received so far.
