NEW DELHI, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) eased marginally to 9.78 percent in July from 9.87 percent in June, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday.

The index for all commodities stood at 110.0 in July, down from 110.2 in the previous month.

Mineral oils, food articles, manufacture of basic metals, non-food articles, manufacture of food products, and chemicals and chemical products were the major drivers of WPI inflation in July, the ministry said.

The WPI Food Index, which consists of food articles from the primary articles group and manufacture of food products from the manufactured products group, recorded a year-on-year inflation of 6.65 percent in July, compared with 6.14 percent in June.

Separately, government data released on Wednesday showed that India's retail inflation rose to 4.45 percent in July from 4.38 percent in June, with food inflation climbing to 5.52 percent from 5.32 percent.

Higher food prices remained the main driver of the increase.
