ISLAMABAD, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar stressed the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on June 18 during a meeting with U.S. Charge d'Affaires Natalie A. Baker here on Friday, the foreign office said.

He said that implementation of the Islamabad MoU "in letter and spirit" was the only way forward, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to regional peace and security while safeguarding its national interests, a statement issued by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The meeting focused on Pakistan-U.S. bilateral cooperation and recent regional developments.

Dar appreciated the positive trajectory in Pakistan-U.S. relations and underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for achieving lasting peace.

The U.S. charge d'affaires appreciated Pakistan's constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability and conveyed felicitations to Dar on Pakistan's Independence Day, celebrated on Aug. 14.
