Ukraine appoints new foreign, defense ministers

The Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday appointed Andrii Sybiha as foreign minister and Evgeniy Khmara as defense minister, the Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported.

Their nominations were approved by 266 and 312 lawmakers respectively, with a required minimum of 226 votes.

Addressing parliament before the vote, Sybiha said his key priorities are a just peace, cooperation with the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, as well as maintaining ties with Ukrainians living abroad.

Sybiha, 51, formerly served as foreign minister from September 2024 to July 2026.

Khmara previously served as acting head of the Security Service of Ukraine and headed the agency's Special Operations Center "A."
