KABUL, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) - A three-day gold and jewelry exhibition kicked off in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Tuesday, drawing together the country's craftsmen, investors, and merchants.

The showcase is designed to spotlight the country's domestic production prowess, deepen collaboration across the jewelry value chain from artisans to traders, and unlock fresh commercial pathways in the sector.

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi underscored Afghanistan's rich resources of gold and precious and semi-precious stones, saying that around 100,000 people currently earn their livelihoods within the jewelry industry across the country.

According to officials from the Afghanistan Jewelers' Union, more than 1,200 gold-melting factories are operational nationwide.
