A strong El Niño, the naturally occurring weather pattern which occurs every five to seven years, is bringing increasingly extreme weather to Chile and other parts of South America.
Weather systems have brought torrential rains, which have triggered deadly flash floods and landslides across several parts of the country. 13 people were killed in rainstorms the length of Chile last month, with homes destroyed and water and power supplies knocked out.
CGTN's John Bartlett reports.
