The 27-year-old German national was detained at Rosenheim railway station southeast of Munich in the early hours of Sunday morning following the attack, the Bavarian Police said in a statement.

A 31-year-old British woman was taken to hospital but died from her injuries, they said.

Police have asked members of the public to contact them with any information about the attack, including if they witnessed an altercation at the station around the time of the incident.
