ABU DHABI, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) said Monday that its air force had responded to a drone approaching from Iran over UAE territorial waters.

The Ministry of Defense said the UAE Armed Forces remained on high alert to deal with any potential threats, while air defense systems continued to monitor and safeguard the country's airspace around the clock.

Earlier, Iran's army said it had attacked Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE with dozens of drones, targeting U.S. helicopters and personnel stationed there, according to Iranian state TV.

Iran said the attack was in response to a U.S. strike on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday night that killed and injured multiple military personnel and civilians.
