SYDNEY, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- A man has died after he was shot during an invasion of his southwest Sydney home in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A police statement said that officers were called to a property in Glen Alpine, 46 km southwest of central Sydney, around 3:40 a.m. local time on Tuesday and arrived to find a man inside the house with a gunshot wound. The man, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that he lived at the property with his family.

Police were told that the unknown offenders had fled shortly before emergency services arrived. A crime scene has been established and the homicide squad has commenced an investigation into the incident.
