BEIRUT, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and another injured on Wednesday in a series of Israeli airstrikes and intense artillery shelling that hit wide areas of southern Lebanon, according to the civil defense and state media.

A Lebanese Civil Defense official told Xinhua that "an Israeli drone targeted an apartment in the Al-Rouweiss neighborhood of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, killing one person and injuring another."

The National News Agency reported that "Israeli airstrikes targeted the Al-Rouweiss neighborhood in Nabatieh al-Fawqa, destroying more civilian homes." It added that the town of Arab Salim was also hit in a strike.

According to the agency, Israeli artillery also continued its intense shelling of the Ali al-Taher Heights and several other areas.

The strikes came amid continued tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, following the seventh round of Lebanese-Israeli talks held in Rome, Italy, in early August. The talks focused on security arrangements along the border and the implementation of a framework agreement between the two sides.
