BANGKOK, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Thailand can accelerate its transition to a high-income, innovation-driven economy by raising productivity growth across firms, people, and regions, the World Bank said on Thursday in a report setting out a development roadmap for the country.

The report, titled "Building Thailand's Future Today," was launched at the Bangkok Business Summit 2026 as government and business leaders discussed the next phase of economic transformation ahead of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group annual meetings, set to take place in Bangkok next month.

Stronger productivity growth, driven by technology adoption, innovation, skills, greater domestic value added, more competitive firms, and more productive cities, could put Thailand on a path toward the 5.4 percent annual gross domestic product (GDP) per capita growth needed to reach high-income status by 2037, the bank said.

The report frames its agenda around two priorities: upgrading into higher-value activities and greater dynamism among firms, people, and cities.

The report also names five "industries of the future" where Thailand has a comparative advantage, namely advanced manufacturing, sustainable and wellness tourism, digital services, agrifood, and creative industries.

"Thailand's high-income ambition is within reach, but getting there will require a new phase of higher-value growth," said Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank vice president for East Asia and Pacific.
