BAGHDAD, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- A member of Iraq's paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) was killed and another wounded early Thursday in a terrorist attack in the country's northern Kirkuk province, said a PMF statement.

The attack occurred at around 2:00 a.m. local time (2300 GMT Wednesday) at a checkpoint within PMF's area of responsibility, the statement said.

The wounded member was taken to a local hospital for treatment, it added.

The authorities have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators, the statement added.
