TOKYO, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Japan's economy expanded an annualized real 1.4 percent in the April-June quarter, revised up from an initial estimate of 1.1 percent, government data showed Tuesday.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, real gross domestic product (GDP), adjusted for inflation, grew 0.4 percent, compared with the preliminary reading of a 0.3 percent rise, the Cabinet Office said.

The main change in the revised figures came from capital expenditure as a smaller decline in business investment provided a lift to the overall GDP reading.

Business investment fell 0.9 percent in the second quarter, compared with the initial estimate of a 1.2 percent drop.

Private consumption, which accounts for more than half of Japan's economy, was unchanged from the initial data.

External demand, or exports minus imports, contributed 0.5 percentage point to GDP growth, unchanged from the initial estimate, while domestic demand reduced growth by 0.1 percentage point, better than a 0.2 percentage point drag estimated previously.
