Hungary has asked 10 members of the Russian diplomatic mission to leave the country over activities deemed "unacceptable under the Vienna Convention," Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban said on Tuesday.
Orban said the Russian ambassador to Hungary was informed of the decision on Tuesday after Hungarian authorities assessed the situation.
"This decision protects Hungary's security and sovereignty. It does not imply breaking off diplomatic relations with Russia," she said in a statement, adding that Budapest intends to continue necessary dialogue with Moscow "based on mutual respect and adherence to the rules."
The Hungarian authorities did not immediately provide further details on the activities allegedly carried out by the Russian diplomats.
