Vienna's Group of Friends of Global Governance reaffirms support for Global Governance Initiative
VIENNA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Group of Friends of Global Governance Vienna Chapter has voiced firm support for the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) and multilateralism.
In a joint statement issued on Monday in Vienna to mark the first anniversary of the GGI proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, member countries of the group reaffirmed their firm support for the initiative and commended its progress, sending a strong message from multilateral platforms in Vienna in support of multilateralism and the promotion of a more just and equitable global governance system.
Centered on implementing the five core concepts of the GGI, the statement called for firmly upholding the international system with the United Nations (UN) at its core, safeguarding the international rule of law, adhering to the principles of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, strengthening solidarity and cooperation, jointly addressing global challenges, and promoting the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Vienna hosts one of the four UN headquarters. Officially launched in April 2026 at the initiative of China, the Group of Friends of Global Governance Vienna Chapter received enthusiastic responses from a wide range of UN member states. It has become an important mechanism for consolidating consensus among various parties at multilateral platforms in Vienna and advancing the practice of the GGI.
