Poland joins European anti-ballistic missile coalition

Poland has joined an anti-ballistic missile coalition with Ukraine and other European countries, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday.

"From today, Poland is part of this major project ... We agreed on the forms and frameworks of this cooperation," Tusk said in a video posted on X.

Tusk attended a summit in western Ukraine on Friday that marked the launch of the Carpathian Eight, a new regional cooperation format announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The anti-ballistic missile coalition was established in July by Ukraine and nine other European countries -- France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark and Sweden -- with the aim of strengthening Europe's capabilities against ballistic missile threats.

Tusk said in July that the coalition was an industrial initiative and that Poland would join once Polish companies were ready to put forward a proposal
