Four jailed over plot of cannabis smuggling to Britain

LONDON, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Four members of a drugs smuggling gang who were part of a plot to import cannabis worth 13.8 million pounds (18.4 million U.S. dollars) into Britain have been jailed, according to British media on Tuesday.

The group members were arrested by Border Force officers in August 2024 when the class B drugs were found packed into 22 suitcases. It triggered a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation.

At Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, one was sentenced to four years in prison, one was handed a two-and-a-half year term, and the other two members were imprisoned for two years and eight months.

The number of people trying to import cannabis to Britain has risen in recent years, the NCA said.
