Nepal's foreign trade rises in first 2 months of current FY

KATHMANDU, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Nepal's foreign trade rose 35.64 percent in the first two months of the fiscal year 2026-27, according to a report released by the Department of Customs on Wednesday.

The country's total trade volume stood at 478.11 billion Nepali rupees (3.13 billion U.S. dollars) between mid-July and mid-September, compared with 352.47 billion rupees during the same period of the previous fiscal year, the department said.

Exports increased by 61.86 percent year-on-year to 76.59 billion rupees from 47.32 billion rupees, while imports rose by 31.58 percent to 401.52 billion rupees from 305.16 billion rupees during the corresponding period last year, according to the report.

Despite the substantial growth in exports, Nepal's trade deficit widened by 26.02 percent year-on-year to 324.93 billion rupees during the review period. (1 Nepali rupee equals about 0.0065 U.S. dollars)
