ADB raises Vietnam's economic growth forecasts

HANOI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has raised its forecasts for Vietnam's economic growth to 7.8 percent in 2026 and 7.6 percent in 2027, according to the Asian Development Outlook released by the bank on Wednesday.

The forecast for 2026 was revised up from 7.2 percent in July, while the 2027 forecast was raised from 7 percent, reflecting stronger domestic demand, accelerated investment and robust manufacturing, the report said.

Shantanu Chakraborty, ADB country director for Vietnam, said the country's strong first-half performance demonstrated the economy's resilience and potential to sustain robust growth.

"To maintain this momentum and achieve high-quality growth, Vietnam will need prudent macro-economic management to contain inflation, safeguard financial stability, and accelerate structural reforms while ensuring that investment-led growth translates into productivity gains," he said.

Vietnam's gross domestic product expanded 8.18 percent year on year in the first half of 2026, according to the National Statistics Office, while the National Assembly has targeted double-digit growth for the full year, Vietnam News Agency reported.
