Record small boat migrants arrive in Britain in one day in 2026

LONDON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A total of 781 migrants arrived in Britain after crossing the English Channel in small boats on Wednesday, Sky News reported Thursday.

The figure marked the highest number of such arrivals in a single day so far this year, surpassing the previous daily record for 2026 of 752 people set on July 29.

A total of 18,565 migrants have arrived in Britain after crossing the English Channel in small boats so far this year, including 6,096 since Andy Burnham became British prime minister in July.

Nonetheless, the total arrivals so far this year remains around 45 percent lower than during the same period last year, the report said.
