Tunisia nabs 5 drug traffickers, seizes 2,650 pills intended for youth

TUNIS, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian security units in the eastern Sousse province arrested five suspected drug traffickers overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, seizing about 2,650 psychotropic pills intended for sale to young people, private radio station Mosaique FM reported.

The arrests followed over two weeks of intelligence gathering and field investigations targeting criminal activities, particularly drug trafficking, a security source told the radio.

Searches of the suspects' premises led to the seizure of the psychotropic pills, cocaine, and a sum of money obtained from drug trafficking, the source said.

The arrested planned to sell the drugs to young people and students in the Boukhzar and Ettaffala neighborhoods in Sousse, it added.
