Singapore population rises 1.6 pct to 6.21 mln

Singapore's total population stood at 6.21 million as at the end of June, up 1.6 percent from a year earlier, while the resident population grew 0.6 percent to 4.23 million, official data showed on Friday.

Within the resident population, citizens increased 0.7 percent to 3.68 million, while permanent residents rose 0.5 percent to 0.55 million, its statistics department said in a report.

The non-resident population grew 3.7 percent to 1.98 million as at the end of June.

Singapore's resident population continued to age, with the median age rising to 43.6 years in 2026.

The proportion of residents aged 65 and above increased to 19.5 percent from 12.4 percent a decade earlier. The resident old-age support ratio, which measures the number of residents aged 20 to 64 for every resident aged 65 and above, continued to decline to 3.2 as at the end of June 2026, from 3.3 a year earlier.

The ethnic composition of the resident population remained broadly stable over the decade, comprising 73.9 percent Chinese, 13.5 percent Malays, 9 percent Indians, and 3.6 percent from other groups as at the end of June 2026.
