Tunisia clinches 12th African men's volleyball title

TUNIS, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tunisia clinched its 12th African men's volleyball title on Friday, defeating Cameroon 3-0 in the final of the African Championship at the El Menzah Sports Palace in Tunis, according to local media.

Host Tunisia won 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 to reclaim the continental crown in front of a home crowd.

Tunisia controlled the match from the outset, taking the opening set before maintaining its momentum through the second and third.

The victory returned Tunisia to the top of African volleyball after Egypt won the previous edition in 2023. Tunisia remains the most successful men's team in the history of the continental championship.

Tunisia reached the final after defeating Morocco 3-1 in the semifinals, while Cameroon secured its place in the title match with a 3-1 victory over Algeria.

The tournament also served as a qualifier for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup in Poland. Tunisia and Cameroon had secured two of Africa's three berths before Friday's final. Algeria claimed the third by defeating Morocco in the bronze-medal match.

With the continental title, Tunisia also secured Africa's men's volleyball berth for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
