De Arrascaeta to undergo surgery on broken wrist

RIO DE JANEIRO, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta will undergo surgery to repair a fracture in his left wrist, the Brazilian club said on Monday.

The 32-year-old sustained the injury while playing for Uruguay in its 4-1 friendly win over South Korea in Seoul on Monday.

"[Giorgian] will return to Brazil, where he will be re-evaluated before the procedure and continue his recovery," Flamengo said in a statement on its official website.

The Rio de Janeiro club did not say how long the playmaker would be sidelined, but local media said he was in danger of missing Flamengo's Copa Libertadores semifinal against Estudiantes, to be played over two legs on October 15 and 22.

De Arrascaeta has made 389 appearances for Flamengo, scoring 107 goals and providing 119 assists, following his 2019 move from Cruzeiro.
