SCO national coordinators' meeting held in Islamabad

Islamabad (People's Daily) — The first meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of National Coordinators under Pakistan's 2026–27 SCO chairmanship began in Islamabad on Monday to discuss the activities and preparations for upcoming SCO engagements.

The meeting, scheduled to continue through September 30, is chaired by Pakistan's national coordinator for the SCO and attended by national coordinators from member states and representatives of the SCO Secretariat.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs ahead of the meeting, discussions will cover SCO cooperation and coordination, including activities under Pakistan's chairmanship, preparations for forthcoming meetings and events, and other matters on the organization's agenda.

Pakistan has adopted "Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity" as the theme of its 2026–27 SCO chairmanship.

The ministry said Pakistan would focus on promoting greater connectivity, fostering innovation, enhancing economic cooperation and strengthening people-to-people contacts, with the aim of translating member states' shared vision into practical, mutually beneficial initiatives.

Pakistan would work closely with all member states and the SCO Secretariat to advance these priorities and strengthen cooperation within the organization, the statement said.

The meeting marks an important initial engagement under Pakistan's chairmanship and will contribute to preparations for high-level activities, including the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting to be hosted by Pakistan in August 2027, according to the ministry.
