One killed, two injured in school attack in N. Slovakia

BRATISLAVA, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- A senior female was killed, and two others were injured in an attack at a primary school on Tuesday morning in Staskov, northern Slovakia, local media reported.

According to the News Agency of the Slovak Republic, preliminary findings showed that the attack took place during classes, when a pupil used a sharp object to assault two teachers and several other pupils.

Emergency Medical Service Operations Centre spokesperson Petra Klimesova said a 61-year-old woman was killed, one child is in critical condition, and a 44-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a stab wound to the chest. Emergency medical teams dispatched two ambulances and two rescue helicopters to the scene.

"Air rescue teams transported the child in a critical condition to a hospital in Martin. Following initial treatment, the 44-year-old female patient, who had suffered a stab wound to the chest, was airlifted to a hospital in Zilina. Unfortunately, the 61-year-old woman sustained injuries incompatible with life," said Klimesova.

The Zilina regional police said the situation was under control. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
