Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump have reaffirmed the strategic value of the China-US relationship in the new era during Xi's first US state visit in 11 years, Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng said.

"In every way, this visit has made history and set a new milestone in engagement between China and the United States," Xie said in an interview with US news outlet Newsweek, published on Thursday.

Xi paid a state visit to the United States from September 23 to 25, reciprocating Trump's visit to Beijing in May.

Noting that the two presidents had exchanged visits within less than half a year, Xie said, "This has shown how much both sides cherish the good working relationship between the two top leaders, as well as the shared commitment of both sides to seizing the opportunity to further stabilize and improve bilateral relations."

The highest-level protocol extended by the US side highlights a pattern of interaction grounded in mutual respect and reciprocity, he said.

Detailing five key outcomes, Xie said the visit has opened a new chapter in head-of-state diplomacy, provided new guidance for China-US relations, opened up new avenues for mutually beneficial cooperation, built new bridges for interaction between the two peoples, and demonstrated both sides' renewed commitment to world peace.

Xie called the outcomes achieved during the visit "substantive and weighty."

One of the most important political outcomes of the visit is that the two presidents further enriched the substance of China-US relations and agreed to build a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability based on respect, fairness and reciprocity, he said.

"This has provided clearer strategic guidance for the improvement and development of China-US relations, marking an important step toward overcoming the 'Thucydides Trap' and finding the right path to get along," Xie said.

According to an eight-point list of deliverables released by China following the visit, both sides agreed to establish the China-US AI Dialogue to exchange views on AI-related risks and benefits, with the next round scheduled for November 2026. They also agreed to establish a bilateral communication channel for AI incidents.

"This proves that AI can very well become a new frontier for China-US cooperation, rather than a new arena for confrontation or conflict," Xie said.
