RIYADH, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Three Saudi citizens were killed and a number of others of various nationalities injured in two attacks targeting Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said Friday.
The first attack targeted facilities at the airport, while the second hit an aircraft belonging to the country's national carrier Saudia, GACA said in a statement.
The attacks left three dead, with airliner Captain Hamoud Ali Alkalthami among the killed.
Emergency teams and relevant authorities responded immediately. All injured people, suffering minor or critical injuries, were transported to hospital, it said.
The attacks also caused property damage. GACA said it is continuing to coordinate with security agencies to assess the damage and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of passengers, personnel and the civil aviation system.
It also confirmed that airport operations and air traffic have resumed.
