Sathkumara said the initiative is aimed at improving the efficiency of its operations.

He also said the Department of Posts plans to introduce electric motorcycles and three-wheelers to its fleet next year to strengthen mail transportation and delivery services.

Sri Lanka's postal history dates back to 1798, while the country's first postage stamp, featuring Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and valued at six pence, was issued on April 1, 1857.
