Hospitals in Ethiopia's Tigray region are gradually resuming services as medical supplies and equipment arrive following recent hostilities, the United Nations said Thursday.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said medical services were being restored at several facilities, including Ayder Hospital in the regional capital, Mekelle.

The UN and its partners are also delivering food, nutrition and other essential supplies to Tigray, Afar and Amhara regions, although humanitarian needs remain significant.

OCHA warned that insecurity in parts of Amhara, northern Afar and Tigray continues to threaten civilians and critical infrastructure, while hampering aid deliveries. Humanitarian agencies are assessing the impact of the violence and the needs of affected communities.

The UN called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, urging all parties to ensure safe, rapid and unhindered access for humanitarian assistance.
