Uganda says it has no confirmed active Ebola cases after a Nigerian woman who tested positive for the virus was reported to have travelled through the country earlier this month.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Uganda's Ministry of Health said the woman had travelled to eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo on business before transiting through Uganda in early October. She reportedly developed symptoms only after arriving in Nigeria.

The ministry cautioned against linking the woman's transit through Uganda to the infection, saying investigations were still underway to establish where she was exposed to the virus.

"Travel through Uganda does not establish that infection occurred here," the ministry said.

Ugandan health authorities said they were awaiting detailed information from their Nigerian counterparts on the woman's travel itinerary and clinical history to help determine whether further investigations and contact tracing were necessary.

Uganda said it was strengthening screening and public health measures at points of entry in coordination with relevant agencies. It added that provisions for humanitarian and diplomatic movements would remain in place as entry controls were reinforced.

The ministry urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, practice good hygiene, including regular handwashing and the use of sanitizer, and avoid sharing unverified information.

It said further updates would be issued through official channels as more information becomes available.
