PHNOM PENH, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Saturday celebrated the 20th anniversary of its participation in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations, vowing to expand its role in maintaining regional and global stability, security, and development.

The event, broadcast live on the state-run TVK, took place at the Training School for Multinational Peacekeeping Forces in Kampong Speu province. The celebration also marked the inauguration of new facilities designed to enhance peacekeeper training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet said that the Southeast Asian nation first deployed its "blue helmets" to UN missions in 2006.

He highlighted the kingdom's pride in transforming from a war-torn country into an active contributor to global peace under the UN umbrella.

UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia Vladanka Andreeva commended the kingdom, noting that it has become a respected member state and a steadfast champion of multilateralism and the UN Charter.
