King Felipe VI on Thursday urged Spanish authorities to act to avoid further rail disasters, wading into the political controversy after the country's second high-speed train collision this year killed 69 people.
"This investigation must determine how and why this catastrophe happened," Felipe said after visiting injured victims at a hospital in the central city of Toledo.
"We must study measures that should be adopted to ensure this does not happen again," added Felipe, who rarely makes political interventions.
