ZAGREB, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Europe's energy system is safe and resilient and there is no risk in supplying energy amid COVID-19 outbreak, ministers in charge of energy and environment from European Union (EU) member states concluded on Tuesday at a video conference hosted by Croatian Minister of Environment and Energy Tomislav Coric.

The ministers stressed that the good energy situation, despite the crisis with the coronavirus pandemic, is the result of the good functioning of the internal energy market within the EU, according to a press release from the Croatian Presidency of the Council of EU.

At the current phase, when the pandemic is reaching its peak, consideration should be given to economic recovery in the next stage, while the recovery plan should focus on strengthening the internal market and strengthening resilience, as requested by the European Commission, said the press release.

The ministers emphasized that the European Green Deal, together with the national energy and climate plans, can play an important role in bringing sustainable recovery to the EU economy.

"This is the right time to reflect on how the energy sector can uplift the immense efforts which are needed to revive our economies. The clean energy transition towards the green growth and climate neutrality can represent a major opportunity to stimulate the recovery of the Member States' economies," the Croatian minister said in the release.
