ATHENS, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- A large part of Athens, Piraeus, parts of the Peloponnese peninsula and nearby islands experienced power cuts around midnight Sunday after a fire broke out at a power station near the Greek capital, authorities announced.

The fire was caused by a technical failure and power cuts were restored within an hour, the Fire Brigade and the Independent Power Transmission Operator S.A. said in press statements.
