Females mayors are twice as likely to experience psychological abuse and almost three times as likely to experience physical violence, a recent study shows.

According to a paper published in the State and Local Government Review journal,
more than 79% of US mayors report being the victim of harassment, threats or psychological abuse. More than 13% also reported experiencing physical violence.

238 mayors participated in the survey. 16% of them said their experiences had them thinking about leaving office.

The study also found that younger mayors who are in larger cities are more likely to be affected by violence and abuse.
