First case of coronavirus confirmed in Spain

Madrid (People’s Daily)—The National Center for Microbiology (CNM) confirmed on January 31 the first positive test for the novel coronavirus in Spain. The Ministry of Health says the test came from one of five samples that it had received from La Gomera.

The patient is of German nationality and is currently being quarantined and treated at a hospital on the island. La Gomera is an island in the Canary Islands of Spain. It is a holiday resort for German and British people. It is about 2,000 kilometers away from the capital Madrid.
