At least 15 people died on Saturday after a wall of a residential complex collapsed in Pune's Kondhwa area, India's Maharashtra state.

National Disaster Response Force has recovered the bodies of nine men, a woman and four children. The deceased are yet to be identified.

Two to three people are still believed to be trapped and rescue operations are underway.

The wall collapsed on shanties following incessant heavy reainfall in Pune, police said on Saturday, adding that the fall revealed the negligence of the construction company.

Pune Police are conducting an investigation into the reasons behind the collapse, checking whether proper permissions and safety measures were taken.

Pune has a population of around three million, and it's the second-largest city in the western state of Maharashtra.
