Paris (People's Daily) -- The number of victims of COVID-19 rose to 28,022 in France Tuesday evening, according to Jérôme Salomon, the director of France's public health agency.

In total, 17,714 people have died in hospitals since March 1 (125 more in the last 24 hours), and 10,308 in nursing homes and other medico-social establishments.

The balance sheet was slightly revised downward from Monday (28,239 dead). This decrease is linked to a modification of the data in nursing homes and other medico-social establishments.

18,468 people are now hospitalized for COVID-19 infection, and the number of people in intensive care units dropped to 1894.

143,427 cases are now confirmed in France, including 524 more in the last 24 hours.

In all, 62,563 people considered to have been cured have been able to leave the hospital since the start of the epidemic.
