The National Republican Senatorial Committee of the United States has urged GOP candidates to address the coronavirus crisis by aggressively attacking China in its latest memo drafted by the political consulting firm of Brett O’Donnell, a veteran Republican strategist, according to POLITICO, an American political journalism company based in Virginia.

The memo calls coronavirus a "Chinese hit-and-run" and tells Republicans to say they will push for sanctions over the country’s role in "spreading the pandemic."

It also advises GOP candidates to push back against Democrats by tying them to the Chinese government, said POLITICO.

It stresses three main lines of assault: that China caused the virus "by covering it up,” that Democrats are "soft on China," and that Republicans will "push for sanctions on China for its role in spreading this pandemic."

In terms of a potential racist reaction to put the blame on China, GOP candidates are urged to respond by saying that, “No one is blaming Chinese Americans. This is the fault of the Chinese Communist Party for covering up the virus and lying about its danger. They caused the pandemic and they should be held accountable.”

The memo also defends US President Donald Trump's handling of the crisis, saying that when asked whether the spread of the coronavirus is Trump's fault, candidates should respond by pivoting to China, POLITICO reported.

O’Donnell declined to comment when reached by media.
